Educational games as facilitators of the teaching and learning process have been used in various fields of knowledge, as well as at different levels of education. Discussions about the use of active methodologies, which bring scientific knowledge closer to the experiences lived by students, point to gamification as one of the possible resources to achieve this goal. During the first cycle of the Extension Project "Sociology in Play: developing games in Basic Education", being carried out at Cefet-RJ, some questions guided our theoretical and practical reflections: how to use games as a method of knowledge production with student protagonism? How to minimize the weight of competition and stimulate cooperation in a society where neoliberal rationality prevails, which values individualism and naturalizes competition? In this article, we will present the strategies used and the obstacles faced to achieve our objectives: prioritizing learning to learn and dialogue as fundamental elements of pedagogical practice.
