This article approaches the work Panamérica (1967) by José Agrippino de Paula e Silva which in the face of canonical artistic aesthetics, represented a rupture and merging reality with the unusual in the allegorical presentation of Brazil and its unsuspecting subjects from its dictators to its emerging heroic left. In this perspective, it intertwines pop aesthetics, beat literature, counterculture, Surrealism, psychedelia, among other horizons unveiled in the experimentalism of the Tropicalista Movement, making the author one of the main countercultural references in Brazil. The article is of an exploratory qualitative nature and is divided into two moments; initially, we will present the author, in a historical perspective while contextualizing his main works in literature, theater and cinema and highlighting his importance in the Brazilian cultural scene that gained limited visibility. Subsequently, we will focus on the analysis of the fiction in Panamérica, bringing to the fore its “delusional” and anthropophagic literary narratives.
