Hybrid PEM Fuel Cell and Ultracapacitor Propulsion System for Energy-Efficient Vehicles

Este artigo detalha o desenvolvimento, a operação e as estratégias de otimização de um sistema de propulsão híbrido baseado em uma célula a combustível de hidrogênio (PEMFC), projetado para um protótipo de veículo elétrico ultraeficiente desenvolvido por uma equipe universitária. Desenvolvido para a competição Shell Eco-marathon Brasil 2025, o projeto visou maximizar a eficiência energética por meio de uma arquitetura de gerenciamento de energia pragmática e robusta. O sistema integra uma PEMFC como fonte primária de energia, uma bateria de íon-lítio, conversores CC-CC e um banco de ultracapacitores. Esses componentes proporcionam nivelamento de carga, gerenciando picos de corrente durante a partida e absorvendo a energia da frenagem regenerativa, protegendo assim a célula a combustível de demandas transitórias abruptas que comprometem sua vida útil. A metodologia englobou uma estimativa analítica simplificada, priorizando a integração eletrônica fundamental em detrimento de controles computacionalmente intensivos. O estudo discute os desafios técnicos e as soluções implementadas, destacando a eficiência e a viabilidade da aplicação dessa tecnologia por outras equipes universitárias. Além de propor abordagens aplicáveis para sistemas de propulsão híbridos sustentáveis, a pesquisa demonstra que resultados altamente expressivos podem ser alcançados mesmo quando o desenvolvimento é realizado de forma pragmática por uma equipe de estudantes.
