Ion removal Cu2+, Mn2+ and Zn2+ on biological sludge reactor high rate anaerobic

This study investigated the feasibility of using anaerobic sludge in natura and the dry matter for the removal of metals (Cu 2+, Mn2+ and Zn2+) from aqueous solutions that work on a fixed bed column. Low concentrations of Cu2+, Mn2+ and Zn2+ (0.01 to 5.00 mg L-1) were applied, considering that the occurrence of bioaccumulation when using non-toxic microorganisms. The sludge used was collected from horizontal anaerobic reactors (RAH) and upflow with sludge blanket (UASB) used in the treatment of wastewater swine. The temperature was monitored at 20 ° C in all assays. Flow rates of 5, 10 and 15 mL min-1, values of pH 4 and 6 and concentrations of 0.01, 0.5 and 1.0 mg L-1 of Cu2+ and Mn2+, and of 0.05; 2.5 and 5.0 mg L-1 of Zn2+. The optimal pH for a removal of Mn2+ and Zn2+ for 4 and for Cu2+ did not show a difference. The highest efficiency was found when the lowest concentration and flow values were used for all three biosorbents. Therefore, the results are applied for post-treatment of effluents with remaining concentrations of metals, which require polishing to a final number, taking into account the legal limits of water quality of the receiving body. The results demonstrated the efficiency of biosorbents (anaerobic sludge) for the removal of Cu2+, Zn2+ and Mn2+ in aqueous solution. The reuse of the waste in adsorption-desorption cycles was possible with the use of the CaCl2 regeneration solution.Downloads
