Abstract

Organizational Ergonomics or Macroergonomics is an Ergonomics subdiscipline developed in the 1980s to study the human-machine interface in the organizational system as a whole. This approach makes it possible to analyze the ergonomic demands of complex work systems, whether these demands are physical, cognitive or workflow related. Meanwhile, academic scientific journals depend on voluntary participation and have their organization shaped according to the people at the heart of its organization. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to understand and map the work system of an academic scientific journal considering the demand analysis of this system through the approach of Organizational Ergonomics. Data was collected in a participatory way, using semi-structured interviews and the workflow was mapped using the Cognitive Walk-Through Method (CWM). From this assessment, it was possible to see where the most urgent ergonomic demands lie, such as in the relationship with assessors or in the problems identified in the magazine's platform. The conclusion of this case study is that Macroergonomics can be a meaningful approach to understand ergonomic demands in complex systems.
