Abstract

This review aims to provide a brief overview of the book “Democracy and Law after the pandemic”, by José Eduardo Faria. In sixteen chapters (the first one dedicated to the methodology), the author reflects on democracy and law in light of the pandemic. The changes that law has undergone are significant, and the author’s analyses scrutinize much of what has happened, including its interface with democracy. To this end, he situates law within society, in line with the tradition of legal sociology, a field in which the author is one of the leading Brazilian representatives. The book sheds light on the new dynamics involving law, notably the dispersion of its sources. It is an extremely valuable book for understanding democracy and law in times of high complexity.
