This study analyzes the concept of sustainable development, within the context of political and social discourses. Furthermore, this paper also demonstrates that both are incredibly dependent on companies in the international arena - as they cannot only help in the protection of the environment, but also ensure, guarantee and protect human rights. Hence, the importance of the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights set out by Marco Ruggie, as they are pillars for Sustainable Development Objectives established by Agenda 2030. To this end, this research not only critically examines the term: "sustainability", in its various dimensions (social, ethical, environmental, economic and legal-political), but also recognizes that, in fact, human rights are essential components for achieving sustainable development, which in itself is a multinational company's responsibility.Downloads
