Abstract

Nationality is a human right that opens the door for all other rights, yet there are people who do not have a nationality, therefore being stateless. With this in mind, the ‘I Belong’ campaign was created in order to eradicate statelessness by the year 2024. Countries such as Brazil, Chile, and Costa Rica are gradually incorporating the campaign´s provisions to solve statelessness with their respective legislation. However, there are still some countries who persistently violate the right to have a nationality, such as the Dominican Republic, whose human rights violation is being investigated by the Inter-American Human Rights Court.
