Abstract

This essay offers a critical analysis of the film Rua de Mão Dupla (2002), by Cao Guimarães, through the lens of debates on domestic space in contemporary art. It is based on the hypothesis that the cinematographic apparatus employed in the film reconfigures the notion of home through the gaze of the other, expanding the concepts of intimacy and identity. To support this argument, the text engages with authors who investigate the role of technical images in shaping contemporary modes of inhabiting. By placing the domestic environment at the center of his poetics, Cao Guimarães moves beyond the paradigms of spectacular culture and proposes new ways of thinking about the relationship between the quotidian and the image from an artistic perspective.
