The purpose of this paper is to identify aspects of motherhood and the feminine persona in the Brazilian novel Um Defeito de Cor. We intend to look at the experience of “being a woman” during slavery: sexuality, motherhood, and the consequences of not being able to choose when to bear a child or how to raise him/her, are some of the aspects highlighted in our study, as well as the frequent sales (reflected in losses) endured by slaves in XIX Century Brazil.Downloads
