In Memorial do Convento (1982), José Saramago (1922) uses some representative elements of the style that is linked, in many ways, to the Spanish-American literature and is usually called magical realism. It is under the perspective of this literary category that we propose an analysis of Saramago’s novel. In this article, we shall deal with the presence of magical realism in Memorial do Convento, where the main element for analysis is the narrator. Cem Anos de Solidão (1967), by Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez, has a place in our analysis as a way of support the present argument.Downloads
