This paper aims to relate some theoretical models of the literary criticism to some perspectives of reading, used mainly in English language teaching and learning, discussing how criticism can condition ways of reading and interpreting. These models of what is considered reading constitute the future language teachers' imaginary and some representations can be identified in their utterances, revealing some 'traces' of their future behavior as a language teacher. Thus, we intend to discuss and problematize those 'fixed'
representations, suggesting other perspectives on reading.
