In the work of Pedro Nava, the representations of space are of fundamental importance. Fascinated by the places where he lived, dwelled or attended, he portrayed those spaces in drawings and plans like a professional of the architecture recording literally the geography of his city. In Beira- Mar, the fourth volume of his memoirs, the actions take place in his beloved Belo Horizonte. Despite the fact that the title suggests the city of Rio de Janeiro, Nava, at this point in his reports, had not yet arrived there. The title was suggested by Lucio Costa, who in a conversation with the author wondered if he would come to Rio in the book he was writing. Given the affirmative answer, he says: So it will be called Beira-Mar.
