Abstract

In this paper, retroflex -R is observed in Brazilian Portuguese in order to make a survey of some registers of its occurrence in different dialects (realizations as a tap or an approximant are not discriminated). On the basis of the reported studies, the areas where it appears are indicated on a map.

Silvia Figueiredo Brandão, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro

Doutora em Letras Vernáculas (UFRJ), atua desde 1978, na Área de Língua Portuguesa, no Departamento de Letras Vernáculas da Faculdade de Letras da UFRJ, onde atualmente é Professor Associado II. No Programa de Pós-graduação em Letras Vernáculas, que coordenou no biênio 1991-1993, desenvolve e orienta pesquisas no âmbito da Sociolingüística Variacionista e da Dialectologia, em especial nos campos da Fonética-Fonologia e da Morfossintaxe. Entre 1994 e 1996, coordenou o GT de Sociolingüística da ANPOLL, e, entre 2000 e 2004, o Projeto VARPORT (Análise Contrastiva de Variedades do Português), de Cooperação Internacional - CAPES-GRICES (Brasil-Portugal). Autora de A geografia lingüística no Brasil (São Paulo: Ática, 1991), com publicações no Brasil e no exterior, organizou, com Maria Antónia Mota, da Universidade de Lisboa, Análise contrastiva de variedades do Português: primeiros estudos (Rio de Janeiro: In-Fólio, 2003), e, com Silvia Rodrigues Vieira, Morfossintaxe e ensino de Português: reflexões e propostas (Fac.Letras-UFRJ, 2004) .
