This paper has the aim of presenting some differences between present-day Brazilian Portuguese (BP) and European Portuguese (EP) and question how they may be detected and serve as a basis for an investigation on the history of BP. Although this type of analysis has not deserved many studies so far, this kind of research is important in that BP may present differences in relation to EP as a consequence of changes that may have occurred in its diachrony. First, this paperI presents the differences found between EP and BP on the null object and on VP ellipsis. Through the observation of these phenomena, some hypoteses are considered about the diachronic change that may be related, that is, the change in verbal structure in BP.Downloads
