This paper analyses the use and formation of abbreviations employed in texts referring to the first socio-political facts of the history of the city of Curitiba, such as the proceedings of its foundation and the transfer of letters of pieces of land, therefore the first known oficial documents of Paraná. The documents date from the period between 1668 and 1721 and are part of the corpus for the study proposed by the project: “Para uma história do português paranaense: nas veredas do Atlas Linguístico do Paraná” (For the history of Paraná Portuguese: in the paths of Paraná Linguistic Atlas).
