The present work is a result of the analysis of the data obtained by the project named: NA/OS: from information and education to preventions. The project was performed by the Departments of Social Work, Social Sciences and Medical Clinic of the University of Londrina, together with the Interdisciplinary Association of A/DS of Londrina, from February to December 1992. The aims of the project were the raising of awareness about the seriousness of the pandemic and the need of its prevention and it was carried out by means of educational talks. The aim of this essay is to evaluate the razing of the level of information and the wíll to change the attitude through strategies such as the one used in this project, that is, educational talks as a means of prevention of AIDS. The methodology used to evaluate the results was based on questionnaires filled in before and after the educational lecture. The analysis indicates that some basic knowledge about AIDS is absorbed, although pre-conceived notions remain. The conclusion points out the importance of the educational lecture in the initial stage of the work. It is, however, from the point view of prevention, a strategy of limited efficacy, demanding complementary strategies.
