Assay on the Anthelmintic activity of Closantel, at the oral doses of 10 mg/kg and 25 mg/kg, against gastrintestinal nematodes in naturally infected cattle were conducted. Two groups of calves naturally infected with gastrintestinal nematodes were treated "per os" with a 30% Closantel solution at the doses of 10 mg/kg and 25 mg/kg respectively and a third similar group only a placebo. Seven days later the 21 calves were slaughtered, all espécies of heminths found were counted "in totum" from each segment of the digestive tube. The abomasum and the smale intestine of each animal were artificially digested. The necroscopic results showed that the Closantel presented efficiency "A " in the two dosages used against the following species of nematodes (adults and imaturesj: Haemonchus contortus, H. similis, Bunostomum plebotomum and Oesopha-gostomum radiatum The other 6 diagnosed species the efficiency varied from "B" to "U" (ARMOUR). AboutDictiocau\us viviparus the compound was inefficient. The dosage of 25 mg/kg showed aparent activity against Mammomonogamus larin-geus. No alteration was observed to the treated yearling-calves, concerning to hematological chart, transaminosis (AST and ALT), desidrogenosis (LDH) and creatinine). No activity was against Dictyocaulus viviparus, but some efficiency became evidente against Mammonogamus laryngeus. No toxic effect was apparent through haematological or haemochemical criteria.
