Attempt to understand the activity of the Brazilian economy after 1974, by means of a critical analysis of the existing literature about the subject. The way in which Brazil reacted to the shocks resulting from the petroleum crisis (firstly in 1973 and secondly in 1979) is demonstrated, in order to make clear how and why it plunged into the current world economy crisis.
