In this paper we introduce the notion of fuzzy measure invented by Sugeno in 1973. We start establishing the difference between fuzzy sets and fuzzy measures, based on the several kinds of uncertainty that arise when knowledge is formalized. Among the many classes of fuzzy measures, we study the belief and plausibility measures and the important Dempster rule as well.
