A global appreciation is presented about the positive and dialectic methods in the investigation of the nature as well as the idea of relation between morphogenesis and soil genesis. A study of the evolution of the landscape in the western Plateau from the State of Sao Paulo is presented, with interpretations of the morphogenesis and soil genesis performed in two distinct moments, starting with studies from the 70's and 80's.
