Abstract

The authors studied parasites in the larynx of cattle in 2,936 animals slaughtered, in Apucarana, Paraná State, during June 1989 and February 1990. Those animals were from Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul State. The age of the animals ranged from 20 to 60 months old, from the breeds Nelore, Gir, Holstein Friesiens and cross breeds of these. The incidence of Mammomonogamus laryngeus revealed an average rate of 13.77% in animals from Paraná State and 15.72% from Mato Grosso do Sul State. Specimens of M. laryngeus were found harbouring only the larynx. The number of parasites found in the infected cattle varied from 1 to 33 pairs. The average size of some structures of helminths were measured and the lesions were described.
