Abstract

Digital games use their own criteria to define genres and subgenres, normally focused on game mechanics. Although there is no consensus in its taxonomy, we consider one of the big game genres is strategy, and one of its subgenres is tower defense, in which the player positions unities in a map to defend themselves from attacks. This article document analyses of 15 digital games from this subgenre. The article describes in detail the main features of the subgenre, both recurring features and special cases, which illustrates the variation within the subgenre.
