Institutional Memory of Brazilian Association of Education in Information Science (ABECIN)

Abstract

Introduction: The institutional memory is an important element to institutional operation, both to ensure the strategic information enabling organizational planning and decision making, as well as to ensure by its historical and probative character the consolidation of its institutional identity. To reach that, we have tried to identify the permanent value documents produced and received by the ABECIN and to verify if those, regardless the media, are being treated following the archivistic principles.
Objective: To investigate how does the conservation and use of permanent value documents, aiming the institutional memory constitution of the Brazilian Association for Education in Information Science (ABECIN).
Methodology: Descriptive research with quantitative approach. To data collection, we have chosen a semi-structured questionnaire, analyzed and presented through graph and table.
Results: Identification of the permanent value documents; the documentation types, its level of importance, and which subsidize the ABECIN activities and their frequency of use.
Conclusion: Highlights the importance of institutional memory in research field of science of information and procedures to ensure that its history and memory will be preserved. Introduce some objective and practicable actions to access the permanent value documents. These actions allow and encourage managers to seek pertinent methodology to optimize organic information flux and of archivist nature, that are indispensable to history of the organization.
