The scope of discussion of Revista História & Ensino encompasses: History teaching; historical education; methodologies for History teaching; historical learning; History didactics; the construction of historical knowledge in school settings; the history of History as a school or academic discipline; History teaching internships; out-of-school History teaching; History curriculum (school or academic); historical cognition; the relationship between History teaching and Public History; and History teacher education.

Articles are expected to present the results of original research, while reports of teaching and learning experiences must be grounded in appropriate theoretical and methodological frameworks. ALL MANUSCRIPTS MUST BE ORIGINAL AND PREVIOUSLY UNPUBLISHED.

The journal is intended for undergraduate History students, History teachers at all educational levels, and researchers in the field of History teaching.

Revista História & Ensino accepts contributions in Portuguese, English, and Spanish in the form of continuous-flow articles, interviews, translations, and book reviews of works published in Brazil within the previous two (2) years and abroad within the previous three (3) years.

Publication Frequency

The journal História & Ensino is published exclusively in digital format and adopts a continuous publication model, with one annual volume. This model was implemented in 2026.

Under this system, articles are made available individually as they complete the editorial process throughout the publication period of the annual volume.

Peer Review Process

The journal História & Ensino adopts a double-anonymous peer review system, in which the identities of authors and reviewers remain confidential throughout the review process.

Manuscripts undergo two rounds of evaluation by different reviewers. When the reviews differ, a third round may be conducted by sending the manuscript to another reviewer to inform the editorial decision.

Reviewers are selected based on their academic qualifications, experience in the manuscript's subject area, and independence from the authors and the editorial decision-making process. The journal seeks to ensure that reviews are conducted impartially and according to academic and scientific criteria. The names of the reviewers are disclosed in the editorial information of each journal issue. The listed professionals hold doctoral degrees in the field and are preferably external to the State University of Londrina.

The editorial decision takes into account the reviews received, the manuscript's suitability for the journal's focus and scope, and compliance with the academic and editorial criteria established by the journal.

Editorial Processing Times

The reported average time for manuscript processing, from submission to publication, is approximately 28 weeks. This period may vary depending on the editorial workflow, reviewer availability, the need for revisions, and the time required to address editorial recommendations.

Journal History

História & Ensino has been published since 1995. It was originally affiliated with the Laboratory for History Teaching (Laboratório de Ensino de História). The journal was founded by Professor Marlene Cainelli, Ph.D., retired professor of the Department of History at the Universidade Estadual de Londrina (UEL). It was the first scholarly journal in Brazil dedicated to History teaching.

Initially, the journal was intended for undergraduate History students and History teachers working in elementary and secondary education. Throughout its history, it has become an important vehicle for disseminating research on History teaching while maintaining a forum for dialogue among the three educational levels.

História & Ensino was formerly part of the activities of the History Teaching Laboratory Extension Program (Programa de Extensão Laboratório de Ensino de História) and is currently affiliated with the Graduate Program in Social History, within the Research Line in History Teaching and Public History.

Initially in print format, the journal is currently published exclusively in digital media, a format implemented as of 2010.
