Abstract

In this study, we intended to adapt and describe preliminary validity evidence of the QuerY - Schema-Screening for Youth in the Brazilian context, aiming at its applicability to adolescents. The study consisted of two steps (instrument translation and empirical study). Thirty-six adolescents took part of the study, and responded to the QuerY, a sociodemographic questionnaire, and general, mental health measures (PHQ-9, HADS, and GAD-7). The results indicated that the QuerY has high internal consistency and discriminative validity, with significant differences between clinical and non-clinical groups. We also observed positive and significant correlations with other mental health measures, indicating its convergent validity. The QuerY has preliminarily evidence to be a promising tool for screening early maladaptive schemas in Brazilian adolescents, offering support for early and effective interventions. However, limitations such as the small sample size of the empirical study suggest the need for future studies with larger and more diverse groups to have a more informed view of the instrument’s properties.
