Abstract

Images of pain and war are constantly published by the media, and ultimately generate a true “iconography of suffering.” This article proposes a discussion of other formats of photographic language that is distinct from the usual media production and conflicts that are related to Benjamin’s conception of the logic of the trace. What are the prospects of enlargement of the photographic language focused on the representation of war? The book Fait, Sophie Ristelhueber (2009), is taken to illustrate how photography can lead to new tensions.
