This paper analyses the building of Islam as an inverted image of western culture, as a result of the publication of cartoons representing prophet Mohammed in a Danish newspaper in September of 2005. The association of the prophet to terrorism in images is discussed in light of the contributions of semiotics of culture and authors such as Vilém Flusser and Norval Baitello Jr.
