Abstract

O Pasquim (1969-1991) is recognized as a leading example of the alternative press in the historical period of the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship (1964-1985), both by their critical positions about the regime, and for its journalistic innovations. The union of two innovative features, the use of imagery and humor, make up the aim purpose of this dissertation work, that aims to analyze the strip's humor of the journal O Pasquim in the context of political repression of civil-military dictatorship in Brazil. To that end, after a theoretical study on the political possibilities of humor, emphasis on describing the concept of humor's transgression, will be analyzed strips published in O Pasquim during the period from its inception until the end of the Médici's government, period that also coincides with the first and two life cycles of the journal, that were organized for analysis by themes, such as censorship and amnesty.
