This article aims to present an overview of studies on theatrical censorship in 19th century Brazil. The starting point is the publication of the essay Pince-nez and Tie Censors: two moments of theatrical censorship in Brazil in the 1980s, that became a reference for research in this field. It highlights the diversity of themes that such studies have been exploring since then and the richness of a field of research that still offers much to be explored.
