Abstract

The interpretation of nature is key challenge in various branches science. This is a polysemic word and had been promoting debates from its conceptualization to the forms of appropriation and preservation. In Geography, nature is often understood as the environment and the search for its epistemological understanding is left out. We always try to rescue the complex understanding of the meanings in the concept of nature, going beyond the comprehension of its materiality. In this article, we present text with the contributions of Élisée Reclus, an important geographer, best known for his anarchist ideas than his ideas about the nature. His writings, in the last quartile of the nineteenth century, present contributions of great importance for understanding the relationship between man and nature, in its symbolic as well in its capitalist use.
