This paper aims to reflect on the brief forms in the literary context, focusing on this subject in a double perspective: on the one hand, to consider the concept of briefness, which will be understood in the present writing in the poundian and ideogramic meaning of abridgment. On the other hand, to analyse the influence of these brief forms to a contemporary romance – Homens imprudentemente poéticos (2006), by Valter Hugo Mãe – gender that, unlike poetry, characterizes by its extension, not by restraint. The premise that leads our critic interpretation is that there is, in the foundation of this romance, a threshold in which east and west loose the borders between them to build a new tensional and dialogic field among different, yet complementary, strengths. Each chapter has a double side: the instantaneous is condensed between words, visuality and meaning, inspired by the brief forms of literature and Japanese calligraphic art, such as haicai and sumiê. In addition, it expands in connections with those that sometimes precede, sometimes succeed it, without causality, in order to constitute a plot. Between poetry and prose, the poetic imprudence happens in this romance.Downloads
