This paper presents an intellectual exercise on how sex, gender and body are represented and literary constituted in Adolfo Caminha’s Bom-Crioulo (1895), considered one of the first novels in Brazilian literature that brings to the public the question of homosexual identity. Taking some analytical tools developed under the auspices of feminism and gender studies as well as queer studies, the article proposes a not so optimistic interpretation around the impact of this novel when it comes to de social constitution of a male homosexual identity during the 19th century Brazilian literature.Downloads
