This article proposes an analysis of the Jorge Icaza’s novel, Huasipungo (Equador). We will examine how the indigenous people (from the Andean region) are represented: in spite of the author’s sympathy towards the fi gure of the Indian, the latter is seen as unable to think or act, and this can be connected with the capacity or incapacity of developing an utopian thought.Downloads
