Overcrowding in Pernambuco Maternity in the context of current Health Policy

This study aims to discuss the problem of overcrowding in public hospitals within the state, in its mediations with the main trends of current health policy, taking as a starting point to the Emergency Obstetric Hospital of Pernambuco. The research was based on a survey of secondary data on the subject of databases of the Ministry of Health, University Hospital of Pernambuco and press reports regarding the number of beds, counseling, human resources and records of the Ombudsman which referred to the service and internment in Emergency Obstetric the institution. The data analysis indicated an intensification process of casualization of the right to quality health (physical facilities, lack of professionals and beds), and working conditions in public hospitals. Precariousness that puts this large obstacle to the implementation of the National Policy of Humanization of Childbirth, since it violates several rights of pregnant women and newborns.
