Onde. Time expression. Gramaticalization.Abstract
This article aims to show the temporal use of the adverb where in the 14th, 16th and 21st centuries in religious texts, in order to explain why this use is considered incorrect by Portuguese grammars. Theory applied to this study was based on linguistic change, mainly grammaticalization. It was observed that the meaning related to time is not a new linguistic form because it was found at the beginning of the development of our mother tongue. The meaning broadening occurs due to the semantic proximity between time and space in Portuguese.
