Abstract

Questionnaires on reading applied to 202 students from the fourth grade at the primary school in nine schools in the town of Irati-PR, Brazil are analyzed. Two schools are located in the center of Irati, whereas three are located in nearby districts and four in the rural area. The main aim of the current research was to diagnose the reading quality of the students assisted by the public and private district schools. The results reveal the predominance of the conception of reading as an extraction of meanings from the text. Consequently, the students refrain from using their own words and expressions acquired in their historical, social and cultural experiences, considering only what the text actually presents.

Renilson José Menegassi, Universidade Estadual de Maringá

Realizou seu curso de Mestrado em Lingüística na Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, investigando os processos de leitura em sala de aula. No curso de Doutorado em Letras, realizado na Universidade Estadual Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP-Assis), investigou os processos de revisão e reescrita em textos de alunos do curso de Letras. Atua nas linhas de pesquisa 'Ensino e Aprendizagem de Línguas', enfatizando-se a leitura e a escrita em situação de ensino, e 'Formação do Professor de Língua', investigando a constituição da escrita na formação inicial e continuada. Atua na graduação em Letras da Universidade Estadual de Maringá e no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras da mesma instituição.
