Agricultural modernization dynamics in the North of Paraná, 1970-95

This study analyses the dynamics of the agricultural modernization in the north of Paraná from 1970 to 1985. Thirty parameters of the modernization were selected, such as: land tenure distribution, use of the land and changes of products, use of technology and capitalization, conditions of the hired labor participation, connected with methods of multivariate analyses. The basic data were obtained from de Agricultural Census (IBGE) in the following years: 1970, 1980 and1985. The results evidence different regions with different degrees of modernization and the way this modernization is carried out among several groups of municipality. In general terms the modernization contributed to change the perennial crops for the annual ones, the pasture, the increase in the inequality of the land tenure distribution, and the growth of the hired labor participation.
