The purpose of this paper is to tell the history of the city of Londrina from its conception, growth and development. Londrina was projected for a population of 30,000 inhabitants; however, it has grown fast, reaching approximately 500,000 inhabitants. In spite of major social, economical and cultural changes, its central urban area and its public spaces have been preserved. This report is part of a research project entitled “Evaluation of the Downtown Boardwalk of Londrina” which shows how the central public areas have changed with the city development.
