Abstract

Although Brazil has been one of the few Latin American’s countries to develop their industry, at a time when there was a strong economic interference from the US’s policy, this was made possible by the strong participation of the National State in investment decisions. However, with the change of position of the key countries in the global market and the relative loss of technological and business leadership of the United States, there was a drastic rationing of external financing and the peripheral economies, including Brazil, were submitted to crisis debt 1980s. That said, it is held in this article a brief historical analysis, when rescue the main economic policies adopted between 1980 and 2010, and we also establish a correlation with changes in the Brazilian industry standard over that period. Therefore, we used the explanatory literature and qualitative research in order to present the economic policies adopted in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, as well as their impact on the Brazilian industrial performance. What can be seen is that Brazil could not keep pace with expansion and the degree of modernization of industry and other savings services, which increased the distance that separates us from the protagonists in the race for development.
