Abstract

With the advent of baby s dentistry and the consequent installation at Universidade Estadual de Londrina, in 1985, of the first Bebê-Clínica in Brazil, more. Than 5000 babies have already been attended. One of remaining questions was about the behavior of these children in the beginning and during the treatment. The visit to the dentist in their first year of life is justified, mainly, by keeping oral health and also by the fact that children grow up used to the dental clinics. The objective of this work is to observe whether dental care in the first year of life benefits or not the development of the children about their behavior. For that purpose we used Wright s behavioral classification. Three hundred babies that started the program for the period of December/90 through June/93 have been selected randomly. The data were collected from records where the babies behaviour in the first, intermediate and last clinical appointments were marked. At the end of the. examination, 80,6% of the records studied showed positive or satisfactory behavior (D or C), while at beginning of the treatment only 29% of the babies showed the same behavior.
