Revision of the immunological mechanisms by which protection against infectious diseases can be obtained through the use of vaccines, sera and immunoglobulins. Description of the types of natural and artificial immunities, specific and nonspecific. Discussion of the reasons for which some vaccines provide lasting protection and others transitory protection, and reference to the mechanisms of cellular and humoral immunity implicated in each of these types of response. Description of the principal factors related to the vaccine and to the vaccines which interfere in the immune response. Revision of the fundamentals and types of passive immunization used in the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases.
