The genera Pseudomonas sp, of the Pseudomonadaceae family and Plesiomonas sp of the Vibrionaceae family, frequently associated with aquatic and flooded environments and algae of the genus Prototheca sp were described in this study as etiologic agents of bovine mastitis. A dairy herd in Minas Gerais state was evaluated. The animals were kept in pens, subdivided according to production. They were kept in mud during the rainy season. The water used for hygiene during milking, proceeded from an artesian well, not being treated and receiving soil residues in the rainy season due to infiltrations. A total of 84 animals in lactation and 21 in dry period was examined. The results of microbiological exams revealed the presence of Prototheca sp in 5,95% of the secretion samples, Pseudomonas sp in 1,19% and Pleisiomonas sp in 1,19% and Pseudomonas sp was isolated from one case of subclinical mastitis. According to some aspects of the herd and the isolated agents, it is possible to conclude that the muddy pens and water from artesian wells used in the hygiene of teats and milking machine, were prediposing factors to the mammary gland infections. These three genera have been reported as etiologic agents of human disease consequently bovine mastitis caused by them can be a risk to Public Health. Also, it must be pointed out this is the first reference to intramammarian infection by microorganism of the genus Plesiomonas in a dairy cow.
