The museums of the federal judicial power: management, infrastructure, accessibility, collection, conservation and communication

Abstract

Objective: to identify and analyze to what extent the museums of the Federal Judiciary follow the norms established by Ibram and its particularities.
Methodology: We conducted the research in the five museums of the Federal Judiciary, namely: Institutional Memory Management, Museum of the Superior Court of Justice, Museum of the Military Justice of the Union, Memorial Geraldo Montedônio Bezerra de Menezes and Museu do Voto. For that, we contextualize these museums and the institutions of which they are part; we analyze how these spaces are managed; and we discussed how these museums deal with institutional memory. Methodology consisted of a mixed approach and the data collection was carried out through a questionnaire applied in person, in addition to the observation in loco.
Results: We observed that the museums studied are either in compliance with the legislation in force or are undergoing a process of adequacy. The most sensitive issues, however, concern the profession and communication with society: none of the museums has museologists on their staff. Likewise, the exhibitions do not include aspects of the institution's relationship with society.
Conclusions: We observed that the fact that they are institutional museums is not a determining factor for their operationality in terms of the museum processes undertaken by the researched institutions.
