Armed Forced librarians: profiles and conceptions

Abstract

Introduction: In this article we seek to know the profile of the military librarians of the Armed Forces, highlighting the practices of the librarians, their profile, and their day to day tasks, both within the ambit of Librarianship and in the Armed Forces itself.
Objective: To give a brief overview of the profile of the military librarians of the Armed Forces, checking the differences, similarities and reality of the military librarians and making a small comparison with the civil librarians.
Methodology: We chose the descriptive and analytical method of the profile of the librarians (as) of the Armed Forces. For the data collection, a small questionnaire was used with open and closed questions. In the collection and compilation of the data the tool "surveymonkey" was used.
Results: Military librarians, besides exercising the office of their profession, carry out other military or associated activities. Librarianship activities are no different in each Armed Forces, they seem to us similar to those of other Forces as well as to civilian ones. What differs is the military activities (in general) that civilians do not perform and also the responsibilities of organizational management, people management and other departments, in addition to the Library or the Information Unit.
Conclusions: It is concluded that military librarians play strategic roles together with the Force, exerting great influence through the management of information and information services on numerous activities in support of military organization and decision making. It is essential that the training of the librarian contemplate in his disciplinary curricula the critical horizon and abilities to anticipate threats.
