Abstract

The National Curricular Parameters were launched, in 1997, as subsidies to support the curriculum organization of the school project, and thus, to meet the different realities and needs of schools and students in each Brazilian region. The innovation focused on the five cross-cutting themes, which could make the class work with current and important issues to the citizenship development and contextualization of educational content more flexible. After almost two decades, we observe a society with distinct characteristics from the 90s, and one aspect that draws attention is its relationship to the consumption. Given the importance of the cross-cutting theme Work and Consumption, in these days, we present the Education for Consumption as a proposal for the History teaching, since it goes with the subject goals and approaches: the identity construction from the consumption; the marketing relation with children and teenagers; the consumption as a social inequality; the comprehension of economic issues; the education for the responsible consumption and the citizenship.
