Author Guidelines

1. História & Ensino accepts contributions in Portuguese, English, and Spanish in the following categories: thematic dossiers, continuous-flow articles, interviews, translations, and book reviews of works published in Brazil within the previous two (2) years and abroad within the previous three (3) years.

2. Contributions must be submitted as a Microsoft Word (.doc) file and must comply with the following requirements:a) Articles: between 15 and 25 pages, including illustrations, tables, and references.
b) Interviews: between 10 and 25 pages.
c) Book reviews: between 5 and 8 pages.
d) Translations will be accepted only if they are unpublished in Portuguese and are accompanied by written authorization to translate the original text. The translated manuscript may not exceed 25 pages.

3. Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal's online submission system. After completing the registration process, the author must log in using their username and password. Then, click on "New Submission". In "Step 1", select the "Section", "Language", "Submission Requirements", and the "Copyright Statement", and, if necessary, add comments to the editor. Click "Save and Continue".

4. In "Step 2", read the instructions, select the original manuscript file in the appropriate field, and click "Upload". Then click "Save and Continue".

5. In "Step 3", the metadata must be entered. Complete the author's information. Then enter the title and abstract (between 100 and 300 words). Next, provide the field and subfield of knowledge, three (3) to five (5) keywords in Portuguese and, where applicable, the funding agency that supported the research. Click "Save and Continue". If there are supplementary files, upload them in "Step 4". Click "Save and Continue" and confirm the submission.

6. ORCID IDS ARE MANDATORY FOR ALL AUTHORS.

7. Authors who have published an article in the journal must observe a minimum interval of two years, counted from the date of publication, before submitting a new article, either individually or as a co-author.

Manuscript Preparation
1. Original manuscripts must be prepared on A4 paper with 3 cm margins on all sides, 1.5-line spacing, a first-line indent of 1 cm, Times New Roman font, size 12.

2. The original manuscript must be presented in the following order:
a) Title with the first letter capitalized, in bold, and centered. One line below, the abstract (the same one used during the online submission) must be presented in single spacing and without a first-line indent. This should be followed by three (3) to five (5) keywords (the same as those used during the online submission).
b) The title, abstract, and keywords must then be presented in English and Spanish, following the same formatting described above.
c) Manuscripts must not contain any information identifying the author(s). This information will be entered only during the online submission process when completing the metadata (Step 3). Therefore, the fields "First Name", "Middle Name", "Last Name", and "Affiliation/Institution" must be completed carefully, as this information will be used during the editing process if the manuscript is accepted for publication.
Note: To ensure author anonymity during the peer review process, the following steps must be performed in the Microsoft Word document:

3. Check for Issues
4. Inspect Document
5. In the Document Inspector window, leave only the option "Document Properties and Personal Information" selected, then click "Inspect".
6. Remove All.
7. Close.
8. Save the document again.
Author Biography: Degree/Institution. Position and Institutional Affiliation.
Example: Ph.D. in History, Universidade Estadual de Londrina. Professor at the Federal University of Paraná.

d) Section headings must be in bold, left-aligned, with only the first letter capitalized, without first-line indentation, and separated from the preceding and following text by one blank line (1.5-line spacing).

3. If the original manuscript is related to a funded research project, the financial support must be acknowledged in a footnote.

4. All manuscripts must be carefully proofread and comply with current grammatical standards.

5. References and citations:
a) Citations must be included in the body of the text using the author-date system, in accordance with ABNT Standard NBR 10520.
b) Direct quotations of up to three lines must appear in the body of the text, enclosed in double quotation marks and without italics. When the author's name is incorporated into the sentence, only the first letter of the surname is capitalized.
Example:
According to Bittencourt (2008, p. 100), "O plano de estudos de 1837 [...]."
When the citation appears entirely within parentheses, the surname must be written in uppercase letters.
Example:
"O plano de estudos de 1837 [...]" (BITTENCOURT, 2008, p. 100).
c) For indirect quotations, the same author-date system must be used; however, page numbers are not mandatory.
Example:
According to Bittencourt (2008), the 1837 curriculum of Colégio D. Pedro II included History as a compulsory subject.
d) Direct quotations longer than three lines must be presented as a block quotation, indented 4 cm from the left margin, without quotation marks, in 10-point font and with single line spacing.
e) Footnotes must be explanatory rather than bibliographical. They should appear at the bottom of each page rather than at the end of the article. They must be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3...) and formatted in the same way as block quotations (Times New Roman, 10-point font, single line spacing).

6. Bibliographical references must appear under the heading References at the end of the manuscript, arranged alphabetically by the authors' surnames, in accordance with ABNT Standard NBR 6023.
(Only works cited in the text should be included in the References section.)

PLAGIARISM DETECTION POLICY

The journal História & Ensino adopts systematic procedures to prevent and identify plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and other forms of academic misconduct, in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and good practices in scientific communication.

Prior to the peer review process, manuscripts submitted to the journal undergo similarity verification using the Turnitin software, made available by the Central Library of the State University of Londrina (UEL). The similarity reports are analyzed by the editorial team, considering the nature of the identified matches and the specificities of academic writing in the Human Sciences.

When signs of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, redundant publication, or other irregularities that compromise the originality or scientific integrity of the manuscript are detected, the journal may request clarifications and corrections from the authors, reject the submission, or adopt appropriate editorial measures.

By submitting a manuscript to História & Ensino, authors declare that the work is original, that all sources used have been properly cited, and that the text does not infringe upon copyrights or academic integrity standards.

Artificial Intelligence Use Policy
História & Ensino, in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), to which it formally adheres with regard to academic integrity and good editorial practices, recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies are part of the contemporary ecosystem of scientific research. The journal considers these tools to be potentially beneficial for improving the technical quality of scholarly communication, provided that they are used responsibly, transparently, and with due respect for the principle of human intellectual authorship.

1. General Principle
The authorship of manuscripts submitted to História & Ensino must be exclusively human. Artificial Intelligence systems may not be designated as authors or co-authors, nor may they assume responsibility for the published content.
The use of AI is permitted only as an instrumental tool for technical support and not as a substitute for the intellectual, argumentative, analytical, or interpretative development of scholarly work.

2. Permitted Uses (Assistive or Instrumental AI)
The use of AI tools is permitted for:
• Spelling, grammar, and syntax correction;
• Stylistic revision and improvement of textual clarity;
• Assistance in the translation of texts, provided that the conceptual, analytical, and argumentative content remains entirely the work of the researcher and that the translation is subject to at least a minimum level of human review;
• Limited technical assistance in the linguistic organization of the manuscript.
In these cases, AI is regarded as an auxiliary technical tool, comparable to language editing and proofreading software.

3. Prohibited Uses (Substitutive Generative AI)
The following practices are not permitted:
• Using AI systems to generate all or a substantial part of the manuscript's argumentative content;
• Delegating to automated systems the formulation of hypotheses, analyses, interpretations, theoretical discussions, or conclusions;
• Submitting manuscripts whose essential academic writing has been produced by automated content generation tools;
• Presenting substantially AI-generated content as original scholarly work.
Such practices constitute a violation of the principles of academic integrity upheld by COPE, CNPq, and the ANPUH Editors' Forum, which guide the editorial policies of this journal, and may be considered editorial misconduct.

4. Mandatory Disclosure of AI Use
Whenever AI tools are used in the permitted cases—such as extensive language revision or translation assistance—the author must explicitly disclose such use either in the manuscript or in the information provided during submission through the journal's submission system.
The declaration must:
• Identify the AI tool used;
• Indicate the purpose for which it was used;
• Confirm that all intellectual and argumentative content is of human authorship.
The following wording is recommended:
"The author(s) declare(s) that the Artificial Intelligence tool [name of the tool] was used exclusively for language revision and/or translation assistance. All intellectual, analytical, and interpretative content of the manuscript is of human authorship."
Failure to disclose this information may result in requests for clarification, editorial review, or other appropriate measures in accordance with the journal's ethical standards.

5. Author Responsibility
Authors remain fully responsible for:
• The originality of the manuscript;
• The accuracy of the information presented;
• The correctness of citations and references;
• The ethical and transparent use of any digital technologies employed.
The use of Artificial Intelligence neither transfers responsibility nor diminishes the authors' responsibilities.
