Political games: values in mobile games with Bolsonaro

Abstract

The work analyzes mobile games with the Jair Bolsonaro’s image, in order to understand their general characteristics, the values communicated by them and whether there is convergence between the values of the games and those of the political form of populism that Bolsonaro manifests. Such games have been created and disseminated since 2016 (before the presidential election) until today. The corpus of 61 games is described and analyzed from the perspective of values, evidencing that there is a convergence of values – among them, “resistance”, “courage” and “heroism”. This association refers, as discussed, not only to the fact that the structure of the games tends to support these values, but also by more specific characteristics of the games, such as the characters that are shown, as well as the type of relationship between the players who play them, allowing president’s supporters to recognize each other.
