The agricultural and industrial exhibition of the Colombian Centennial and the idea of progress in 1910

On July 20, 1910, Colombia held their first century as a sovereign country. The State, the Catholic Church, the press, the political parties and organizations and governmental and private institutions were given the task of making this date one of the most memorable days in the history of the country. A number of commemorative events, where he excelled the Agricultural exhibition and Industrial of the Centenary, were made to the length and breadth of the Colombian territory. Organizing committees of national character, regional and local were commissioned to prepare to the smallest detail. This article is intended to discuss preparations and events during the celebration of the Centenary of national Independence, to show the underlying logic in it, its significance, its symbolic content designed to recreate an idea of progress and forging a national affiliation.Downloads
