Image reading for photographic archives: a proposal for historical recovery of the Londrina (PR) Producer Market

Abstract

It analyzes photographic images of the Londrina (PR) Producer Market, granted that it is considered a cultural manifestation. As result, it seeks to determine the relevance of a scientific study of these images for the recovery of the memory, the use in archive systems and documentary preservation. Data were gathered from private collections, and the methodology integrated conceptual elements of photographic technique and sources for identification of evidences of file value of such photographs. A typology was established as guide for the analyses which were carried out through the reading of images, with the material having been treated as documentary resource. The related typology encloses content definition, correlation with historical and social facts of the portrayed community, indication of archive storage procedures, as well as evaluation of the way, in the photographic support, are constituted the components capable of converting them into archive photograph.
